Mayor-elect Hur Tae-jung: "The Transition Committee Will Address All Pending Issues Thoroughly"
Democratic Party Lawmakers from Daejeon Hold Meeting on June 12
A meeting between Hur Tae-jung, the mayor-elect of Daejeon, and members of the National Assembly from the Daejeon branch of the Democratic Party of Korea was held at 11 a.m. on June 12 in the small conference room on the second floor of the former Chungnam Provincial Government building.
Mayor-elect Hur was joined by Park Junghyun, the Daejeon branch chair, Cho Seungrae, secretary-general, and lawmakers Jang Cheolmin, Jang Jongtae, Park Yonggap, and Hwang Jeonga.
Mayor-elect Hur evaluated the election, stating, "The June 3 local elections were a valuable victory for the Democratic Party of Korea. Despite difficult external circumstances, the party, Daejeon branch, and campaign team united as one in all regions to achieve this result. Above all, I believe it was made possible by the support of our citizens."
He added, "As I begin my work with the transition committee, I feel a great sense of responsibility. There are numerous pending issues and challenges facing our region, and I am deeply considering how to resolve each one."
He continued, "The transition committee will make sure to address all current issues during the transition period. We will report ongoing projects to citizens just as they are, and the committee will clearly outline the direction for the upcoming 9th popularly elected administration."
Park Junghyun, the general chair, said, "The fact that citizens chose the Democratic Party of Korea is a stern mandate to restore governance and to operate a competent local government in partnership with President Lee Jaemyung, who is known for his effective leadership."
She continued, "To fully realize the pledges made by the mayor-elect for the 9th term, a seamless coalition among all of us is essential. On the foundation of strong legislative and budgetary support from the National Assembly, we will work closely with the Lee Jaemyung administration to create new growth engines for Daejeon and complete a vision that will embrace the lives of citizens with warmth."
Cho Seungrae, secretary-general, stated, "For the development of Daejeon, I hope not only Democratic Party lawmakers but also opposition politicians will cooperate and join forces so that we can work together for Daejeon's progress. Since the Democratic Party has been entrusted with great responsibility, we will do our best to support Daejeon's administration and work diligently."
.
Jang Cheolmin, a member of the National Assembly, said, "When we are able to address the pressing issues at a swift pace, citizens will feel that this election was a success and recognize the potential for Daejeon's future. Once the National Assembly committees for the second half of the year are decided, I will frequently create opportunities to discuss and share Daejeon's vision and agenda together."
Jang Jongtae, a member of the National Assembly, stated, "With the launch of the new administration, Daejeon's lawmakers will unite to pool their strength and wisdom with the mayor, and we will do our utmost to resolve Daejeon's future vision and pending issues."
Park Yonggap, a member of the National Assembly, remarked, "Mayor Lee Jangwoo lacked communication with local lawmakers. Since Mayor-elect Hur Tae-jung is from the same party as the lawmakers, regardless of which committee we belong to, we will actively step up to resolve any issues that arise for Daejeon."
Hwang Jeonga, a member of the National Assembly, said, "With the support of citizens in the June 3 local elections, a truly overwhelming 'one team' has been formed, from the mayor and district heads to city and district council members. I am grateful for and feel the great responsibility of the citizens' solemn choice for Daejeon's future and for establishing it as the capital of science and technology."
She went on, "Now is the time for the central and local governments to become a 'one team' with the Lee Jaemyung administration and open a new path for Daejeon's leap forward. I believe the remainder of the Lee Jaemyung administration's term is a golden opportunity that will determine the next 100 years for Korea and Daejeon."
