The 12th Asia Business Daily Honam Cup Junior Golf Championship, which has established itself as a gateway for promising golfers in Korea, concluded successfully on June 12 at Le Onet CC in Gokseong-gun, South Jeolla Province. In the boys’ division, Jongmin Park claimed the championship, while in the girls’ division, Hayoun An took home the top honor.
Hosted by the Honam News Headquarters of The Asia Business Daily and organized by the Gwangju Golf Association, the tournament drew junior golfers from all over the country, who competed fiercely over two days.
Held over two days in a 36-hole stroke play format, the boys’ division was won by Jongmin Park, a third-year student at Hampyeong Golf High School. Park shot a 70 in the first round and a 68 in the second round, finishing with a total score of 6-under-par 138 to secure the victory.

Geon Hwang, a first-year student at Mangyeong High School, also posted a 143 but took fourth place by countback, and Sihyun Park, a first-year student at Gaegum High School, finished fifth with a 2-over-par 146.
In the girls’ division, Hayoun An, a third-year student at Hamyeol Girls’ High School, lifted the championship trophy with a total of 3-under-par 141.
Hyeji Jang, a first-year student at Soongil High School, surged in the second round with a 68, finishing second with a 1-under-par 143, while Chaeun Jeong, a first-year student at Anseong High School, finished third with a 2-over-par 146. Yewon Kim, a third-year student at Seogang High School, and Gabin Kim, a second-year student at Eunkwang Girls’ High School, followed in fourth and fifth place with scores of 3-over-par 147 and 4-over-par 148, respectively.
Despite being held over just two days, the tournament saw a rare feat, with three players—Yuna Lee (first-year at Dongyeong Middle School), Jongmin Park (third-year at Hampyeong Golf High School), and Hayoun An (third-year at Hamyeol Girls’ High School)—each scoring an eagle and receiving special awards. Yuna Lee, notably the youngest as a first-year middle school student, made an eagle on the first day, energizing the tournament. In particular, both overall winners, Jongmin Park and Hayoun An, achieved the double feat of winning both the championship and a special award, drawing applause from the gallery.
The tournament also drew attention with the participation of three elementary school players—Eunchan Kang (sixth-year at Sumoone Elementary School), Jium Yoon (sixth-year at Songwon Elementary School), and Chaewon Kim (sixth-year at Maegok Elementary School)—as special invitees. Despite competing in a 36-hole event against much older peers, they performed impressively, showing promise as future stars of Korean golf.
Geumtaek Oh, Head of the Honam News Headquarters at The Asia Business Daily, remarked, “All the players who participated in this tournament are future champions who continue to surpass their own limits. I hope they will continue to grow into Korea’s top representatives in the sport.”
