Engine AI, Chinese Humanoid Robot Company, Seeks Hong Kong IPO
Engine AI, a Chinese humanoid robot company, has applied for an initial public offering (IPO) on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Recently, as investor interest in commercialized robotics technology has grown in China, robot manufacturers have been actively pursuing IPOs.
On June 12, according to Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter, Engine AI is reportedly in talks with China International Capital Corporation (CICC) and CSC Financial as lead underwriters for its Hong Kong listing.
Bloomberg also pointed out that Engine AI is heading toward the public market amid increasing investor interest in the development of Chinese robotics technology. The robotics industry is one of the key policy sectors China is promoting in its technology rivalry with the United States. There is also strong investment demand for companies operating across the broader artificial intelligence (AI) sector, not just robotics.
Founded in 2023, Engine AI is one of the companies aiming to popularize humanoid robots. Last year, the company garnered attention by releasing a video of its robot performing a forward somersault. In April, Engine AI raised 200 million dollars in its Series B round, bringing its valuation to over 1.5 billion dollars.
