Three Days Before Trump's Birthday... Interior Department: "Will Not Be Tolerated"
In the heart of Washington, D.C., on the lawn of the National Mall, the anti-Trump slogan '8647' appeared in the form of large numbers, prompting authorities to launch an investigation. The incident occurred just three days before President Donald Trump's birthday.

Park Police stated that the numbers were drawn on the western lawn of the National Mall and were large enough to be photographed from the top of the Washington Monument. The numbers appeared as brown patches contrasting with the surrounding green grass; while '8' and '7' were relatively clear, '6' was faint and '4' was barely recognizable.
In order to identify who left this marking, an analysis of footage from EarthCam, the webcam provider, showed that the numbers gradually emerged over several days. It is unclear when the marking first appeared, but CNN reported that the numbers were not visible in photos taken on the 5th. As of the afternoon of the 11th, the markings were still difficult to discern from the ground.
The U.S. Park Police, who manage the site, responded to a report at around 11:30 a.m. on the 11th. The police stated that the cause of the grass discoloration has not yet been determined and that samples are being collected and analyzed. The Park Police said, "We take any threat against the President very seriously," adding, "We will investigate this incident and hold those responsible accountable."
'8647' is a symbolic expression of opposition to President Trump, and is used at protest sites as well as on merchandise such as T-shirts. In restaurant slang, '86' commonly means to 'eliminate' an order or a customer, while '47' is interpreted as referring to Trump as the 47th president of the United States.
The Trump Administration has interpreted this number not just as a political slogan but as a threat against the President. In the past, President Trump claimed on his social media account that "'86' is slang for 'kill,' and '8647' means 'kill President Trump.'
Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted last April on charges of threatening the President after he posted a photo on social media in May last year showing '8647' written with seashells on a North Carolina beach. Comey denies the charges and maintains his innocence, but the trial is scheduled for October.

This marking was discovered as large-scale events, including a UFC match, are scheduled to take place in the Washington area on June 14, President Trump's birthday, with large crowds expected. Davis Ingle of the White House press office told CNN, "Anyone who incites or advocates political violence or assassination should be condemned in the strongest possible terms." A spokesperson for the U.S. Department of the Interior also described the marking as "deranged vandalism" and declared, "It will not be tolerated."
