Mercury Accelerates Expansion into European and North American Markets amid Growing AI Data Center-Driven Optical Cable Demand
Mercury, a domestic optical cable specialist, is accelerating its efforts to target the European and North American markets in response to increasing global demand for optical cables driven by the expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers and ultra-high-speed network infrastructure.
Mercury announced on June 12 that, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Mercury Optical Communication, it participated in ANGA COM 2026, the largest broadcasting and broadband cable industry exhibition in Europe, which was held last month in Cologne, Germany.
At this exhibition, Mercury showcased multi-core and high fiber count optical cables optimized for AI data centers and ultra-high-speed broadband network environments. These products are specifically designed to reliably handle the surge in large-scale data traffic resulting from the advancement of data centers.
During the exhibition, Mercury introduced its products to major European telecommunications operators and network infrastructure builders, while also holding a variety of business meetings. In particular, the company discussed cooperation plans for optical cable supply with key operators from Germany, the UK, Poland, Sweden, and other major countries, confirming the potential for expansion in the European market.
Recently, the global optical communication market has been growing rapidly, fueled by the proliferation of generative AI and cloud services. As demand for data center interconnects and the construction of ultra-high-speed broadband infrastructure intensifies, the need for high fiber count optical cables capable of supporting large-scale optical fiber networks is also on the rise.
Mercury is also expanding its business base in the North American market. The company recently participated as an optical cable supplier in a broadband infrastructure construction project in the northeastern United States, laying the groundwork for entry into the local public infrastructure market.
This project is a government-linked initiative that will continue through 2029. Based on the supply track record secured through this initial contract, the company is anticipating additional orders in the future. Mercury is also pursuing market expansion by negotiating various optical cable supply projects with major North American clients.
A company representative stated, "By participating in ANGA COM 2026, we were able to effectively showcase Mercury's technological capabilities and product competitiveness to European customers," adding, "We plan to actively expand our optical cable supply in Europe, leveraging the business experience we have accumulated in the North American market."
