Following Samsung, SK hynix to Adopt ChatGPT... "AI Utilization Is the Key to Competitiveness"
AI Transformation Accelerates in the Semiconductor Industry
Nojung Kwak: "Reviewing from Security and System Perspectives"
Step-by-Step Adoption and Expansion of AI Utilization Planned
Samsung Also Officially Launches Generative AI Today
Following Samsung Electronics' full-scale adoption of external generative AI for work, SK hynix is also pushing to introduce external AI models, including ChatGPT. This marks the acceleration of AI transformation (AX) initiatives across the semiconductor industry.
According to industry sources on June 12, Nojung Kwak, President and CEO of SK hynix, communicated with employees on the theme of "How Should We Work in the Age of AI?" during the CEO town hall event at the "New Icheon Forum" held the previous day.
The New Icheon Forum is an event designed for SK Group executives and employees to discuss survival strategies in the AI era and groupwide plans for AX implementation. At this event, CEO Kwak highlighted that striking a balance between protecting industrial technology and expanding AI utilization is a key challenge, and announced intentions to review the introduction of external generative AI models.
Kwak stated, "We are considering the adoption of Microsoft (MS) 365 and Copilot, and we are also reviewing the internal use of ChatGPT Enterprise (an AI solution for businesses) from the perspectives of security and system architecture." He further explained, "We plan to gradually introduce external AI in areas unrelated to national core technologies and expand the scope of its use step by step."

During the event, employees raised questions about security issues in the process of utilizing AI, the need for education, and the expansion of computing resources. Employees emphasized the necessity for greater use of external AI models, advancement of internal AI platforms, and enhanced AI education.
Kwak stressed, "In the AI era, it is more important to learn and adapt quickly than to know more than others," adding, "We need to redesign our work together with AI." He continued, "The process of experiencing AI and transforming our ways of working will become a new competitive edge for SK hynix. We will actively support our employees so they can take on new approaches using AI, accumulate experience, and achieve faster growth."
