President Lee Jae-myung will preside over a senior aides meeting via video conference during his state visit to Italy. The intention is to directly oversee key domestic issues, such as the parliamentary investigation into the National Election Commission, the investigation into the shortage of ballot papers, and trends in the foreign exchange and financial markets, even while on his European tour.

Senior Spokesperson Kang explained, “To ensure there is no leadership vacuum during the trip, President Lee will directly chair the senior aides meeting from Italy and receive reports on major domestic affairs.”
The agenda for this meeting includes the “Plan to Promote the Parliamentary Investigation into the National Election Commission and Institutional Reforms,” prepared by the Office of Political Affairs; the “Status of the Joint Police and Prosecutors’ Investigation Headquarters and Developments Regarding the Ballot Paper Shortage Incident,” prepared by the Office of Civil Affairs; and the “Trends in the Foreign Exchange and Financial Markets and Countermeasures Related to Inflation,” prepared by the Office of Economic Growth.
In particular, both the parliamentary investigation into the National Election Commission and the progress of the investigation into the ballot paper shortage will be reported as agenda items. Previously, President Lee characterized the ballot paper shortage during the local elections as a serious infringement on voting rights and called for thorough fact-finding and institutional reforms. This video conference is seen as an expression of the administration’s determination to continue managing these issues at the presidential level, even while abroad.
Regarding the background of holding the video conference, Senior Spokesperson Kang stated, “The decision to hold a video conference for the senior aides meeting was made before the President departed the country,” adding, “There are several pressing issues in Korea even during the trip, so the President will address them via video to avoid any gaps in governance.” She continued, “Although it will be 9 p.m. on Sunday in Korea, all staff will report to work. All officials at the secretary level and above will be present in the video conference room to participate and ensure connectivity.”
