Appears to Emphasize Strengthening Cooperation
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un sent a congratulatory message to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the occasion of Russia Day (June 12), the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on June 11.
According to KCNA, the message was "courteously delivered" by North Korean Ambassador to Russia Sin Hong-chol, who met with an official of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The contents of the congratulatory message were not released in the statement on that day.
It is presumed that Kim Jong Un's message assessed the development of bilateral relations in accordance with the "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty" signed between the two countries in June 2024 and expressed his intent to continue expanding and strengthening cooperation in various fields.
On May 9, Kim Jong Un also sent a congratulatory message to President Putin on the 81st anniversary of Russia's Victory Day in World War II, reaffirming the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) government's stance of "placing utmost importance on the comprehensive strategic partnership and consistently advancing it," and emphasizing the alliance by stating that North Korea "will always be responsible in fulfilling the obligations of the intergovernmental treaty between North Korea and Russia."
As in 2024, North Korea announced through KCNA, one day before Russia Day last year as well, that Kim Jong Un had sent a congratulatory message and disclosed the delivery route. The following day, the contents of the message were also made public.
