Daehan and Mirae Urge General Meeting to Discuss Jang's Resignation; Jeong Jeomsik Says He Will Consider
'Daehan and Mirae'—a group of reform-minded and junior lawmakers within the People Power Party—requested on June 11 that newly appointed Floor Leader Jeong Jeom-sik convene a general meeting of lawmakers to discuss the resignation of Representative Jang Dong-hyuk. Floor Leader Jeong stated, "I will gather opinions in a variety of ways," and added, "As for convening the general meeting, I will carefully consider the timing."
Lee Seong-gwon, the secretary of Daehan and Mirae, met with Floor Leader Jeong at the main building of the National Assembly that afternoon and told reporters, "We have officially requested a general meeting of lawmakers to reach a collective conclusion regarding the resignation of party leadership following the crushing defeat in the local elections, as well as the withdrawal of demands for a re-election based on conspiracy theories about election fraud." He explained that the group aims to come to a decision through collective intelligence.
Floor Leader Jeong did not express a specific position on the calls for the resignation of Representative Jang and other party leaders. However, it was reported that he explained to members of Daehan and Mirae that he opposes calls for a re-election over the ballot paper shortage incident.
Assemblyman Lee said, "Floor Leader Jeong has publicly stated through the media that a full re-election is neither appropriate under current law nor realistic, so he believes it is not suitable," adding, "He did not comment one way or another regarding Representative Jang's status."
Floor Leader Jeong also said he would consider the timing for the requested general meeting. He cited the many urgent matters at hand, including the formation of the new floor leadership team, negotiations over the composition of the National Assembly's standing committees, and talks regarding the establishment of a special parliamentary committee to investigate the ballot paper shortage incident.

Assemblyman Lee added, "Floor Leader Jeong agreed to the request for a general meeting regarding the two issues but is still considering the timing," and continued, "Daehan and Mirae have asked to hold the general meeting by next Tuesday at the latest, but since time is short, he said he would give us an answer by the weekend after seriously considering it."
