Naver Cloud Unveils Defense AI Implementation Strategies... Focus on Omnimodal and FDE
Naver Cloud announced on the 11th that it held the "Sovereign AI-Based Defense AX Development Strategy Seminar" and unveiled strategies and application plans for defense artificial intelligence (AI) that can be deployed on the battlefield.
At this seminar, Naver Cloud presented its omnimodal AI model—which integrates text, voice, video, and maps into a single operational situation—and a system centered on FDE (Forward Deployed Engineer), which places field engineers at the forefront, as the core of sovereign defense AI. The company also stated its intention to go beyond simple development and pursue deployment of these technologies in real operational environments.
Yukyungbum, Executive Director at Naver Cloud, gave a presentation titled "Defense AX Completed with Sovereign AI: Naver Cloud's Next-Generation Full-Stack Battlefield Operations Strategy," where he introduced ways to apply full-stack sovereign AI capabilities in the defense sector. He emphasized that the "HyperCLOVA X Omnimodal"—an omnimodal model capable of understanding various types of data such as voice and video—can interpret diverse battlefield data as a single, integrated situational picture.
He also highlighted Naver Cloud’s strength in providing defense-exclusive AI data centers (DCs). The approach involves a central data center for integrated training and advancement of models using data from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Joint Chiefs of Staff, combined with edge data centers that can respond even if communications are cut off. Additionally, the deployment of FDEs (Forward Deployed Engineers) to the field was cited as a key differentiator of Naver Cloud.
Meanwhile, Naksoo Jung, Executive Director at Naver Cloud, gave a presentation titled "Essential Requirements for Building Defense-Dedicated AI: Build-Type Cloud and Ontology-Based Knowledge Systems," stating that the shift to defense AI is the source of competitiveness for future command and control systems. He particularly emphasized that build-type cloud infrastructure is an essential prerequisite to prevent the external leakage of military secrets and operational data.
