Gyeonggi Marine and Fisheries Resources Institute Releases 30,000 Cuttlefish into Hwaseong Coastal Waters
The Gyeonggi Marine and Fisheries Resources Research Institute has conducted a trial release of 30,000 cuttlefish into the coastal waters of Hwaseong.
The young cuttlefish released in this trial are high-quality stock, artificially hatched from eggs collected from broodstock raised by the institute since May in indoor rearing tanks, and have undergone disease screening prior to release.
Cuttlefish are a representative coastal fish species inhabiting mainly the west and south coasts of Korea. Recently, their frequency of appearance has increased along the Gyeonggi coast due to rising water temperatures. They grow rapidly, reaching a marketable size within one year, and have a strong tendency to remain in coastal areas, which is expected to make the release highly effective. Since 2021, the institute has been releasing between 10,000 and 50,000 cuttlefish seeds annually into the Gyeonggi sea on a trial basis to boost fishermen's income and develop fisheries resources.

We aim to lead the way in creating a prosperous Gyeonggi sea through the continuous development of seed production technologies and trial releases."
