Weekday Night Rounds Surge 133% Year-on-Year
Rising Popularity of After Work Culture and Value for Money
The extreme heat has also changed golf consumption patterns. Instead of playing in the morning, people are now enjoying rounds in the evening.
According to booking data analyzed by XGOLF, a golf booking platform, on June 11, the number of third-wave (night) rounds starting after 4 p.m. in June increased by 119% compared to the same period last year. In particular, weekday night bookings surged by 133% year-on-year. This is a noticeable shift from the previous pattern, which focused mainly on weekends.

View original imageThis is the result of both the extreme heat and changes in lifestyle. In the past, golfers had to set aside a whole day for golf, but recently, more office workers are choosing to play in the evening after work. The so-called 'after work golf' culture, where people enjoy a round after finishing their workday, is spreading.
Night rounds are gaining popularity. With less exposure to ultraviolet rays, players can reduce physical fatigue. Affordable green fees are another advantage. When combined with no-caddie, self-play rounds, the overall cost burden is further reduced. These night rounds are especially favored by golfers in their 30s and 40s and office workers who prioritize value for money.

The golf course industry is also expanding its night operations to meet changing demand. By introducing high-intensity LED lighting facilities, they are now able to provide a playing environment comparable to daytime. Operational systems are also rapidly becoming digitalized, with mobile reservations, QR-based check-ins, unmanned kiosks, and self-payment systems being introduced.
