Six Outstanding Cadets Receive Presidential Commendation
Dong-A University has organized a special lecture to foster the proper sense of national identity and military spirit among reserve officer candidates, further strengthening its efforts to cultivate future military leaders.
The university’s 117th Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) hosted a “Focused Mental Combat Training” session, invited by President Lee Haewoo, for the 65th (senior) and 66th (junior) classes of ROTC cadets at the Seunghak Campus on June 10.
This training was arranged to help officer candidates about to be commissioned establish a strong sense of national identity and a heightened sense of responsibility. Prior to the session, an award ceremony was held to present the “2026 First Half Outstanding Officer Candidates” Presidential Commendation.
The commendations were awarded to six cadets—Kwon Minji, Koo Jaewon, Kwak Kiyeong, Kim Suhyeon, Park Jihyang, and Choi Seoyun—who have demonstrated excellence in both academics and military studies, as well as exemplary participation within the ROTC unit. They were also recognized for actively promoting officer recruitment during the first half of the year, contributing to the Army’s efforts to secure future talent.
Kwon Minji, one of the award recipients, said, “It is an honor to receive such a meaningful award. I am grateful to the corps commander, training officers, and my fellow cadets for their unwavering guidance and support. I will continue to strive to become an elite officer who excels both academically and militarily.”
In a special lecture on “national identity,” President Lee Haewoo emphasized to the reserve officers the importance of leadership and responsibility required of an officer.
President Lee stated, “To become an outstanding officer, you must possess leadership, decisiveness, crisis response and problem-solving skills, and effective communication—all grounded in a firm sense of national identity and responsibility. Do not give up, continue to challenge yourself relentlessly, and when you make a decision, carry it out with thoroughness. I hope you will grow into future Army leaders who serve the country and society without fear of failure.”
