Gimcheon City Proves Itself as a Leader in Records Administration with Prime Minister's Commendation
First in North Gyeongsang to Receive the Award
Digital Records Management and Administrative Exhibition Highly Praised
Gimcheon City, North Gyeongsang Province, announced that it received the Prime Minister's Commendation for National Records Management Achievement at the '2026 Record Day' ceremony held at the Government Complex Seoul on June 9.
The National Records Management Achievement Award is a government honor presented to organizations and groups that have contributed to the advancement of records management and the promotion of record culture in the Republic of Korea.
In particular, Gimcheon City is the only basic local government nationwide to receive the Prime Minister's Commendation this year, and it is also the first recipient among North Gyeongsang Province and its 22 cities and counties, making the award especially meaningful.

Gimcheon City has led the way in records administration by carrying out various projects to expand its records management infrastructure and enhance its systematic processes.
Over the past five years, the city has improved the environment of its document storage facilities, established a third document repository, and organized records management projects, thereby enhancing the professionalism and efficiency of its records management work.
Additionally, by implementing projects to digitize important records, Gimcheon City has made it easier to access records information in an online environment.
As a result, the city has been recognized for simultaneously strengthening both the usability and accessibility of administrative work.
In particular, last year's special exhibition, "Gimcheon City Administration Speaks Through Records: Administrative Museum," is considered a representative case that contributed to the spread of record culture by sharing the historical value and importance of administrative records with citizens.
This exhibition provided citizens with an opportunity to reflect on the city's administrative history and served as a catalyst for raising awareness of the importance of records management within the public sector.
This award is seen as the government's official recognition of Gimcheon City's efforts to establish a systematic management system for the entire process—from the creation to the preservation and utilization of records—while realizing the public value of records.
Mayor Bae Nakho of Gimcheon City stated, "We will continue to strengthen our digital-based records management system to realize transparent and responsible records administration," and added, "We will expand record culture projects that engage citizens to ensure the value of records is spread throughout the community."
Records are not only a means to preserve the past, but also assets that build trust in future administration.
