SeAH Steel Wins UK CCUS Project Order... Supplies 1,750 Tons of Steel Pipes
Supplying Stainless Steel Pipes for UK Government Project
Proven Cryogenic Impact Toughness and Corrosion Resistance in Extreme Low-Temperature Environments
SeAH Steel is accelerating its entry into the eco-friendly decarbonized energy infrastructure market by supplying high value-added steel pipes for a carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) project led by the UK government.

View original imageOn June 11, SeAH Steel announced that it has secured a contract to supply steel pipes for the Teesside CCUS project, which is being promoted by the UK government, and has begun supplying the products. The supply volume is approximately 1,750 tons of stainless steel pipes.
This project is a representative energy transition initiative that collects carbon dioxide emitted during power generation and permanently stores it in the deep sea, thereby achieving regional decarbonization. SeAH Steel's pipes are used in critical processes to refine the captured carbon dioxide and transport it in both gaseous and liquid forms within low-carbon combined cycle power plants and deep-sea storage facilities.
SeAH Steel's CCUS pipes meet stringent requirements by maintaining uniform material properties even under varying temperatures and pressures. These high value-added products feature 'cryogenic impact toughness,' which prevents breakage at extremely low temperatures of minus 196 degrees Celsius, as well as 'corrosion resistance' to withstand high-pressure subsea environments. In particular, the company has maximized process stability and product quality by producing large-diameter pipes of 50 to 66 inches in extra-long 12-meter lengths—twice as long as standard products—thereby minimizing welded joints.
The UK government is ramping up the establishment of large-scale carbon capture clusters, investing approximately 3.1 trillion yen (about 31 trillion won) to achieve carbon neutrality. According to market research firm MMR, the global carbon capture and storage market is projected to reach about 73 trillion won by 2030.
SeAH Steel plans to leverage this contract to pursue additional orders for related projects in line with the expansion of the global carbon capture market.
