Samsung C&T Partners with UK Architectural Firm for Seongsu District 3 Redevelopment...Second Collaboration After Apgujeong [Real Estate AtoZ]
Joint Participation from the Initial Concept Design Stage
Samsung C&T Corporation's Engineering & Construction Group announced on June 11 that it will partner with the UK-based global architectural firm Foster and Partners for the redevelopment project in the Seongsu Strategic Maintenance Area District 3, Seongdong-gu, Seoul. This marks the second partnership with the firm, following their previous collaboration in the competition for the reconstruction of Apgujeong Special Planning Area District 4.
Seongsu District 3 is a Han River waterfront redevelopment project covering an area of 114,193 square meters in the Seongsu-dong 2-ga area. With its location offering access to the Han River, Seoul Forest, and the Seongsu commercial district, it is considered a key maintenance project in the Seongsu area. The local association for Seongsu District 3 plans to select a contractor in the second half of this year.

Recently, Samsung C&T Corporation and the Foster and Partners design team visited the Seongsu District 3 site to inspect the location and surrounding environment. The plan is to prepare a design proposal that takes into account not only the exterior appearance, but also structural safety, Han River views, natural lighting, and privacy.
The length of Seongsu District 3 facing the Han River is approximately 250 meters, which is relatively short, making the securing of river views a key design variable. Samsung C&T Corporation explained that, in consideration of these conditions, it is reviewing ways for the majority of association members to enjoy Han River views. The company also plans to propose deck-type landscaping facilities and Han River view community spaces linked to the waterfront cultural park that is planned to be built above Gangbyeonbuk-ro. Through this, they aim to create a three-dimensional residential space connecting the inside and outside of the complex.
Foster and Partners is led by renowned British architect Norman Foster and is known for designing Apple Park in California, London City Hall, and the HSBC headquarters in Hong Kong.
Cheoljin Lim, Head of Housing Sales at Samsung C&T Corporation, stated, "Seongsu District 3 is a core maintenance project in Seoul that combines the natural environment of the Han River and Seoul Forest with the cultural value of Seongsu-dong, offering future growth potential. By bringing together both companies' world-class expertise in high-rise design, advanced technology, and differentiated residential products, we will develop this project into the most prominent landmark in Seongsu-dong."
