Jung Deokyoung: "Designing Yangju's Future with the Voices of Citizens"
Jung Deokyoung, Mayor-elect of Yangju, has completed the formation of the transition committee that will lay the groundwork for the 9th popularly elected administration and is set to begin full-fledged activities.
On June 10, Jung announced that the transition committee will be officially named the “Yangju Great Transformation Citizen Sovereignty Transition Committee” and revealed the list of committee members. The committee will hold its inaugural ceremony at 10 a.m. on June 11 and will operate for 20 days until June 30.
The “Yangju Great Transformation Citizen Sovereignty Transition Committee” was named to reflect Jung’s philosophy that “the citizens are the true owners of Yangju” and his determination to radically transform the city’s stagnant development. The committee will be organized into four divisions: Citizen Sovereignty, Jobs & Economy, Urban Development·Transport·Balanced Growth, and Education·Culture·Welfare.
The chairperson of the transition committee is former Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly member Park Taehee. Park served as a 10th-term Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly member during President Lee Jaemyung’s tenure as governor of Gyeonggi Province and previously held the position of Director of Transportation Business at Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, earning recognition as an expert in transportation and urban development.
Park Jaeyong, a proportional representative for people with disabilities in the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly, has been appointed as vice chairperson. The secretary is Ahn Jungun, an aide at National Assemblyman Jeong Seongho’s office, who has been responsible for key issues in Yangju such as railways, roads, and new city development.
The transition committee includes a total of 15 members, featuring city council members Lee Jiyeon and Han Sangmin, as well as various experts and citizen representatives in fields such as urban development, finance, transportation, environment, education, and cultural tourism. The advisory committee, chaired by former Yangju City Hall Accounting Department head Jo Taehwa, consists of 20 members.
During its term, the transition committee plans to establish the vision and key policy agenda for the 9th popularly elected administration while focusing on gathering citizen input. In particular, through the “100-Day Citizen Sovereignty Innovation Proposal” to be implemented during the first 100 days after inauguration, the committee aims to generate a wide range of policy ideas, from improving daily inconveniences to developing future growth strategies.
The committee will also focus its efforts on preparing solutions for major regional issues such as normalizing the Seoul–Yangju expressway, establishing a new Office of Education, attracting public institutions, and setting up a public medical center in northern Gyeonggi Province. It will comprehensively review transportation issues including GTX, subway, express buses, and city buses, with plans to develop improvement measures that citizens can feel in their daily lives.
In particular, to ensure on-site visits do not become mere administrative formalities, the committee plans to hold on-site discussions directly with citizens and actively incorporate citizen voices into municipal administration, operating as a citizen-sovereignty-oriented transition committee.
