Genolution Completes PCT International Application for Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus Crop Protection Agent
Genolution has completed a PCT international application for an RNA interference (RNAi)-based crop protection composition precisely targeting tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV).
According to Genolution on June 10, this PCT international application is based on the TSWV-targeted RNAi-based crop protection technology that the company previously filed domestically. This is a strategic move to preemptively secure patent rights in major overseas agricultural markets and to maximize the potential for global commercialization. The related domestic patent is currently under examination.
TSWV is a representative plant viral disease, commonly referred to as “Color Disease” in Korea. It infects major economic crops such as chili peppers, paprika, tomatoes, and potatoes, causing uneven fruit coloration, stunted growth, and reduced marketability, which leads to significant economic losses for farmers. In particular, TSWV is classified as a high-risk plant virus because it has a broad host range and is transmitted by thrips, making it extremely difficult to control even in overseas markets.
With the completion of this PCT international application, Genolution plans to accelerate its entry into the global market and drive forward its ambition to become a “comprehensive green bio solution company.” The company aims to robustly diversify its pipeline in the crop protection sector by leveraging its proprietary ▲large-scale dsRNA production platform, ▲experience in RNAi product development, and ▲capabilities in green bio commercialization and global market expansion.
Genolution is seeking to expand its partnerships with crop protection companies and research institutions both domestically and internationally, and is pursuing joint research and proof-of-concept (PoC) trials tailored to local crops and cultivation environments overseas. RNAi technology acts selectively only on target genes, minimizing environmental impact while maximizing control effectiveness, making it a core solution that perfectly aligns with the global agricultural trend of “sustainable precision agriculture.”
