Now in its 13th edition, the Gyeonggi Ceramics Biennale will be held under the theme "Earth Makes." The event aims to spotlight soil, land, and the planet not merely as raw materials, but also as agents of artistic creation, presenting exhibitions and programs that newly explore the relationship between humans and nature, technology and the environment.
The main exhibition, "Earth Makes," which is the centerpiece of this biennale, will feature 28 teams and a total of 65 artists from 14 countries. International and domestic artists, including William Cobbing from the UK, Changho Kim, Siyoung Kim, and Wan Lee from Korea, Yasmin Smith from Australia, and the French art duo Scenocosme, will offer diverse perspectives on humanity, the environment, technology, and cultural heritage through the medium of ceramics.
Notably, visitors can expect to encounter a broad range of works, from performative sculptures that express the relationship between clay and the human body, to pieces that reinterpret traces of geological time and the environment through ceramics, as well as media art that incorporates the interplay of technology and ecology.
To mark the 100-day countdown to the opening, the Korea Ceramic Foundation has launched the official biennale website and begun full-scale publicity efforts. The website provides information on the event, exhibitions, academic programs, supplementary events, visitor details, and profiles for participants in both the main exhibition and international competition.
Special discount events for visitors are also planned. Starting at 11 a.m. on the 15th, 4,000 early bird tickets will be available for purchase on Ticketlink and Naver. The regular price for an integrated ticket is KRW 11,000, but it will be offered at a 70% discounted price of KRW 3,300. The integrated ticket grants one-time access to each of the three venues in Icheon, Gwangju, and Yeoju during the biennale period.
The foundation is also running an online comment event on its official social media channels until the 19th. Participants who leave their expectations for the biennale will be entered into a draw to win coffee coupons, ceramic goods, and more.
