According to police and other sources on June 9, Oh Sangtaek, Chief Superintendent of Songpa Police Station in Seoul, offered his resignation that day.
A police official stated, "The Songpa Police Chief submitted his resignation today as it became difficult for him to command on site due to a worsening chronic illness," adding, "The head of public safety at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency was immediately designated as the on-site administrator to ensure there is no gap in managing the situation."
