The "K-Education Special City Preparation Committee," established for the transition of duties of Kim Daejung, the elected superintendent of the integrated Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City, will launch on the 10th.
The Preparation Committee (hereinafter referred to as "the Committee") announced that it will hold its official inauguration ceremony at 2 p.m. that day at the Committee headquarters on the 3rd floor of the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Training Institute. The event will be attended by the superintendent-elect Kim Daejung, Chairperson Kim Kyungbum, and the 12 committee members. The ceremony will also include the unveiling of the new office plaque reflecting the vision for the integrated office of education and the presentation of appointment letters.

View original imageThe Committee has introduced a "dual headquarters system" to establish balanced educational policies for both Gwangju and Jeonnam regions and ensure efficient organizational management. Accordingly, the Gwangju headquarters will be located at the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Training Institute in Ochi-dong, Buk-gu, while the Jeonnam headquarters will be based at the Jeonnam Office of Education Sports Education Center in Namak, Muan County.
The organization is structured under the leadership of Chairperson Kim Kyungbum, comprising 12 transition committee members, working-level members, citizen engagement members, media and public relations department, and administrative support staff. Notably, the core structure includes four specialized subcommittees tasked with detailing the blueprint for the integrated office of education.
The Integrated Education Planning Committee will be chaired by Oh Kyungmi, former director of education at the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, with Kang Young, principal of Gwangju Songjeongdong Elementary School, and Ahn Byungmo, director of the Policy Research Institute at the Jeonnam Office of Education, joining as members.
The AI Education Transformation Committee will be led by Kim Yongtae, former head of the Gwangju branch of the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union, with Lee Hwanho, former principal of Goryeo High School, and Han Changsoo, principal of Younggang Elementary School, managing operations together. The Autonomy and Decentralization Education Committee will be chaired by Lim Changok, former head of the Jeonnam branch of the National Parents Association for True Education, with Kim In, administrator at Mokpo Girls' High School, joining as a member.
The Megacity Education Committee will be chaired by Moon Seungtae, former vice president of Suncheon National University, with Kim Dooseok, administrator at the Lifelong Education Welfare Division of Gwangju Western Office of Education, and Kim Kwono, administrator at Suncheon Sunhye School, included as members. In addition, the Citizen Engagement Committee, responsible for gathering input from various stakeholders in Gwangju and Jeonnam—including parents, university students, civil society, universities, and local governments—will be jointly overseen by Moon Seungtae, Kim Yongtae, and Lim Changok.
Chairperson Kim Kyungbum stated, "The launch of the K-Education Special City Preparation Committee marks a historic first step in uniting the educational values of Jeonnam and Gwangju," emphasizing, "We will build a close-knit, practice-oriented committee centered on 12 expert committee members and education professionals from schools and institutions to ensure a seamless integration of the Jeonnam-Gwangju unified education system."
