Joint Investigation Team on 'Ballot Paper Incident' Established at Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office... 27 Members in Total
Kim Taehun Appointed as Head of the Joint Investigation Team
The joint prosecution-police investigation team (hereafter referred to as the joint investigation team) tasked with uncovering the full truth behind the unprecedented "ballot paper shortage incident" that occurred in the June 3 local elections will officially launch on June 9, 2026.
The Supreme Prosecutors' Office announced via a press release that afternoon, "To swiftly and thoroughly investigate the issues that hindered citizens' suffrage during the recent June 3 local elections, the prosecution and police have decided to establish a joint investigation team at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office."
This comes just two days after President Lee Jaemyung ordered the formation of the task force on June 7. The head of the joint investigation team will be Kim Taehun, the third deputy chief prosecutor at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Judicial Research and Training Institute, Class 35), who is regarded as a leading expert in public security cases.
Director Kim is known as an expert in election-related crimes, having previously served as the head of the Public and Anti-Corruption Crimes Division (Criminal Division 4) at the Daejeon District Prosecutors’ Office in 2022 and as head of the Election Investigation Support Division at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office's Public Investigation Department in 2023. He currently leads the Public Investigation Division 2 (headed by Chief Prosecutor Kim Hyungwon), which is responsible for election and political crimes at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office.
