Human Rights Chief: "Ballot Paper Shortage... Thorough Investigation Needed into Election Management"
Changho Ahn, Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea, commented on the shortage of ballot papers in the June 3 local elections, stating, "A thorough investigation into the overall preparation and operation processes of the election management system is necessary, and effective measures for improvement must be established."
In a statement released on June 9, Chairman Ahn expressed "deep concern over the inconvenience and confusion caused to citizens in exercising their right to vote," and made these remarks.
He further emphasized, "Elections are the most fundamental democratic procedures through which the principle of national sovereignty is realized," and pointed out, "This incident not only affects the smooth exercise of citizens' suffrage, but also undermines public trust in the entire election management system."
