KT Responds to Large World Cup Cheering Crowds with Intelligent Network Technology
Communication Quality Inspections at Gwanghwamun Square and More
Real-Time Traffic Management System Implemented
KT announced on June 9 that it has established a response system, such as inspecting the communication quality in major crowded areas where cheering events are scheduled, ahead of South Korea's first World Cup match to be held on June 12.

View original imageFor the pre-inspections focused on areas such as Gwanghwamun Square, Seoul Plaza, and Yeongdong-daero in Gangnam, KT applied its 'W-SDN' based network technology. W-SDN is an intelligent network control system that precisely analyzes real-time traffic centrally and automatically selects and manages base stations at risk of overload. By instantly reallocating network resources according to changes in crowd density and service usage, KT can stably provide communication services even during large-scale events.
To address the potential for sudden surges in traffic on-site, KT will also operate a phased response system. Additional mobile base stations will be deployed in advance, and the Gwacheon Network Control Center will conduct special 24-hour monitoring before and after the scheduled cheering events. If any unusual situations arise, recovery personnel will be immediately dispatched.
KT demonstrated stable network quality using W-SDN-based operations not only during the large-scale BTS concert held at Gwanghwamun Square in March, but also at other major sports events. Moving forward, KT plans to further expand the application of artificial intelligence (AI) analysis and control functions to continuously improve the network quality as experienced by customers.
