Speaker Cho Jeong-sik Appoints Taewoong Kang, Yongsan District Committee Head, as Chief Secretary
Four Senior Secretaries Appointed
New Senior Secretary for Foreign Affairs and National Security Established
On June 8, the new Speaker of the National Assembly, Jeong Sik Cho, appointed Taewoong Kang, former head of the Democratic Party’s Yongsan District Committee, as his Chief of Staff.
Speaker Cho announced that he had finalized the formation of his secretariat on this day, appointing four senior secretaries along with the Chief of Staff.
Chief of Staff Kang previously held key positions such as Director General for Planning and Coordination for the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and served as the First Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs of Seoul. Since joining the Democratic Party in 2020, he ran as a candidate for the 21st and 22nd general elections in Yongsan District.
The Secretariat system of the Speaker of the National Assembly has been reorganized from the previous structure of Senior Secretaries for Political Affairs, Policy, Public Relations, and Messaging into Senior Secretaries for Political Affairs, Policy, Foreign Affairs and Security, and Public Communication.
Speaker Cho newly established the Senior Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Security to systematically support the Speaker’s diplomatic activities and parliamentary diplomacy, and integrated the functions of public relations and messaging into the Senior Secretary for Public Communication.

The new Senior Secretary for Political Affairs is Lee Jeonghee, former aide to Assemblyman Jeong Sik Cho; Senior Secretary for Policy is Yoon Sangeun, former deputy director of the Floor Leader’s Office; Senior Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Security is Lee Wanghwi, former professor of Political Science and Diplomacy at Ajou University; and Senior Secretary for Public Communication is attorney Jang Hyunju.
