A Round Through Suncheon’s Traditional Markets, Full of Suncheon Flavors
A Hands-on Gourmet Tour: Listen to Market Stories, Taste and Create Local Flavors with All Five Senses
First-Come, First-Served Registration for 15 Participants Per Session Until June 19
Suncheon City in South Jeolla Province is now recruiting participants for the gourmet tour program "A Round of the Market, Full of Suncheon Flavors" in celebration of Suncheon Gourmet Week 2026. This program is designed for participants to experience the hidden charms of traditional markets with all five senses.
This program goes beyond simple grocery shopping, offering a deep dive into the history, flavors, and livelihoods found in Suncheon's traditional markets.
Participants will stroll through the vibrant markets, taste signature local foods, and use Suncheon Love Gift Certificates provided as part of the program to experience the generous hospitality and unique culture of traditional markets firsthand.
After the market tour, there will be a special cooking class featuring plums, a signature summer ingredient of Suncheon.
Participants will have the opportunity to prepare and taste dishes made from fresh, seasonal local ingredients, providing a hands-on experience of Suncheon's rich culinary culture.
The event will be held over two days, on the 22nd (at Araetjang Market) and the 25th (at Jungang Market), starting at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. respectively.
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis with about 15 participants per session, for a total of 60 participants. The participation fee is 20,000 won per person. Each participant will receive a 10,000 won Suncheon Love Gift Certificate to use immediately at the market, effectively reducing the actual cost of participation.
A city official stated, "Traditional markets are more than just places to buy and sell goods; they are precious cultural spaces in Suncheon where people, food, and the passage of time are all layered together. Through this tour, we hope participants will hear the heartfelt stories of market vendors and fully experience Suncheon's gourmet traditions by seeing, tasting, and even making the local cuisine themselves."
