$28 for a Beer: "Is This for Real?"... U.S. Stadium Prices Make Headlines Ahead of World Cup
Controversy Over Stadium Prices in the U.S. Ahead of World Cup
As the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America approaches, the high prices of beverages at stadiums in the United States have become a hot topic among football fans. Many overseas fans unfamiliar with local prices are responding that the cost of drinks inside stadiums is excessively expensive.
On June 8 (local time), the UK sports news website HITC reported, "The high prices of drinks at U.S. stadiums are causing controversy among European fans."
According to a photo of a stadium drink menu posted on X (formerly Twitter) by Simon Pitch, a football reporter for the Press Association, premium beer is priced at $18 (about 28,000 won), while regular beer costs $16.75 (about 26,000 won). Premium cocktails are sold for $26.50 (about 41,000 won). The price of regular bottled water reaches $7.5 (about 11,600 won).
It is unclear if these prices include value-added tax (VAT).
Fans residing in the United States are accustomed to such prices, but visitors from overseas continue to express surprise at the high costs.
