Gaudi's Masterpiece Completed After 144 Years... Now Available as a Lego Set
Sagrada Familia Basilica
Recreated with 12,060 Lego Pieces
Danish toy company Lego is set to unveil its largest product ever: a recreation of the Sagrada Familia, the iconic basilica in Barcelona, Spain, which is nearing completion after 144 years of construction.
On June 7, Yonhap News, citing CNN, reported that Lego will launch its largest set to date, featuring 12,060 pieces to recreate the Sagrada Familia. This product is being released to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the death of the Spanish genius architect Antoni Gaudi, who designed the basilica, as well as the cathedral’s completion.

View original imageThis masterpiece, left unfinished by Gaudi, has been under construction since 1882, spanning 144 years. Although some finishing work remains, the completion of the central tower, the Jesus Christ Tower, in February marked the practical conclusion of the project. Standing at 172.5 meters, the Sagrada Familia is considered the tallest church building in the world. Lego has recreated the basilica as a model standing 62 centimeters tall.
One of the most meticulously crafted aspects is the cathedral’s signature stained glass. To capture the distinctive way light filters through the stained glass windows in the real basilica, Lego has faithfully incorporated stained glass effects into the product.

In a press release, Lego stated, “We aimed to honor Gaudi’s vision as much as possible, capturing the rhythm, astonishing complexity, and ambition of the cathedral’s architecture, and translating it into an immersive building experience.” The set will be sold for approximately 800 euros (about 1.44 million won). Pre-orders are currently being accepted through the Lego website and other channels, and the product will be available starting in November.
Meanwhile, on June 10, a mass commemorating the 100th anniversary of Gaudi’s death and the completion of the basilica will be held at the Sagrada Familia, officiated by Pope Leo XIV, who is visiting Spain.
