President Lee Nominates Han Seong-sook as New Prime Minister Candidate... Second Female Prime Minister in History
On June 7, President Lee Jaemyung nominated Han Seong-sook, Minister of SMEs and Startups, as the new candidate for Prime Minister.
Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik announced the nomination during a briefing at the Chunchugwan on the same day.
If Han is appointed as Prime Minister, she will become the first female Prime Minister in 20 years since former Prime Minister Han Myung-sook in 2006, and only the second female Prime Minister in history.

Minister Han is a former CEO of Naver and is known as a leading figure in the IT industry who drove the growth of the domestic portal sector. She began her career as a journalist for the computer-specialized magazine Mincom and, in 1997, participated as a founding member of Empas. In 2007, she joined NHN, the predecessor of Naver, and went on to serve in roles such as Head of Naver Search Quality Center and Head of Service Headquarters.
