Baemin B Mart Sees 53% Growth in Domestic Agricultural and Livestock Product Sales This Year
Strengthening Direct Sourcing from Local Farms Nationwide for Strawberries, Watermelons, Korean Melons, and More
Sales of local agricultural and livestock products through Baemin B Mart (B Mart), the quick commerce service of Baedal Minjok, have increased. The collaborative efforts to support local farms are being recognized as delivering tangible results.
Woowa Brothers announced on June 7 that, as a result of strengthening cooperation with local farms across the country and continuously expanding direct sourcing from producers through B Mart, sales of domestically sourced agricultural and livestock products purchased directly from January to May this year increased by 53% compared to the same period last year.
In particular, the growth of seasonal fruit, introduced in collaboration with local producers to coincide with harvest times, is notable. As of May this year, total sales of fruit through B Mart rose by 61% year-on-year, driven by seasonal fruit sourced from local regions such as strawberries (Hadong in South Gyeongsang Province and Goryeong in North Gyeongsang Province), Korean melons (Seongju in North Gyeongsang Province), blueberries (Damyang in South Jeolla Province and Gochang in North Jeolla Province), and watermelons (Haman in South Gyeongsang Province and Buyeo in South Chungcheong Province).
During this period, sales of strawberries grew by 74% year-on-year, and sales of Korean melons (103%) and tangerines (64%) also rose across the board. In particular, watermelon sales surged by 271%, and domestically grown blueberries grew by 132%, showing strong growth across various fruit categories.
Currently, the number of local farms and companies with direct supply contracts with B Mart stands at 56 nationwide, with the range of partner regions expanding from Seogwipo in Jeju to Yanggu in Gangwon Province.
B Mart will continue to hold special promotions in June to boost consumption of local agricultural and livestock products. First, until June 21, B Mart is running the “Hall of Fame Watermelon” event, offering up to 45% discounts on watermelons sourced from Eumseong in North Chungcheong Province, Buyeo and Nonsan in South Chungcheong Province, and other regions. In addition, from June 17 to 23, a meat promotion will be held with up to 50% discounts on Jeju pork and Nonghyup Anshim Hanwoo. Furthermore, from June 24 to 30, a special event featuring Shinbi peaches from Jain Nonghyup in Gyeongsan, in collaboration with the Gyeongsan Café Festival, will be held, with plans to sell approximately 7,000 packs of peaches at discounted prices.
