Ansan City in Gyeonggi Province held a memorial ceremony to commemorate the 71st Memorial Day, honoring the noble spirit of sacrifice of the patriotic martyrs and war heroes and reflecting on the meaning of love for the country.

View original imageAnsan City announced that on the 6th, it held the Memorial Day ceremony at the Memorial Tower in Wongok Park, attended by more than 400 people, including independence activists, national merit awardees and their families, members of the National Assembly, provincial and city council members, heads of various institutions and organizations, and citizens.
The ceremony began at 10 a.m. with a moment of silence in line with the nationwide memorial siren. This was followed by floral tributes and incense offerings, a memorial address, recitation of a dedicatory poem, and a commemorative performance. Participants sang the Memorial Day song together, paying tribute to the spirits of the patriotic martyrs and war heroes.
In particular, after the official proceedings, a time was set aside for citizens to freely offer flowers and incense, allowing them to continue commemorating those who sacrificed their lives for the country in a meaningful way.
In his memorial address, Lee Minguen, Mayor of Ansan, stated, "I express my deepest respect and gratitude for the noble sacrifice of the patriotic martyrs and war heroes who willingly gave themselves for the country," and added, "Based on the values of freedom and peace preserved by our forebears, we will make Ansan a city where all citizens feel pride, respect one another, and grow together."

Meanwhile, Ansan City has raised the condolence payment for deceased veterans from 150,000 won to 300,000 won starting this year to further honor veterans who served the country. The city is also actively implementing various policies for national merit awardees and their families, such as gradually increasing subsidies for the operation of veterans' organizations.
