'World Cup Amid Conflict'... U.S. Issues Entry Visas to Iran National Football Team
Amid ongoing military tensions between the United States and Iran, the U.S. government has approved entry for members of the Iran national football team participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North and Central America.
On June 5 (local time), major foreign media outlets, citing a White House official, reported that the U.S. government had completed the visa issuance process for the Iran national football team players the previous night.
However, it appears that not all team members have received their visas. According to Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency, some members of the team's technical staff and administrative support personnel have still not been issued U.S. visas as of that day.
In the upcoming North and Central American World Cup group stage, Iran has been placed in Group G and will face Belgium, Egypt, and New Zealand. All three of Iran’s group stage matches are scheduled to take place in the United States, specifically in Inglewood near Los Angeles (LA) and Seattle.

After an armed clash erupted between the two countries on February 28, concerns arose over the possibility of Iran boycotting the World Cup finals. However, the Iran Football Federation ultimately decided to participate. Nevertheless, due to safety concerns, the team hastily relocated its planned World Cup base camp from Tucson, Arizona, to a nearby location in Mexico.
