A non-commissioned officer died during a battle station drill aboard a Navy vessel operating near Yeonpyeong Island in the West Sea.
The Navy announced that at 1:36 p.m. on June 5, a non-commissioned officer was found unconscious with bleeding from the head inside a vessel operating near Yeonpyeong Island in the West Sea.
The Navy administered emergency medical treatment at the scene and urgently transported the officer to the Armed Forces Capital Hospital via military medevac helicopter. However, the officer was pronounced dead at approximately 4:50 p.m.

The Navy stated, "We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved family" and added, "A joint investigation by civilian police and military investigative agencies will be conducted to determine the precise cause of death."
