Woo Yidong: "The Election Results Reflect the Current State of the Party"
On June 5, Kim Taegyu, Yoo Uidong, Yoon Yonggeun, and Lee Jinsuk of the People Power Party, who were elected in the National Assembly by-elections held on June 3, entered the National Assembly for the first time. The newly-elected lawmakers expressed their determination to contribute to their party and to work on increasing public support.

View original imageThe four lawmakers attended the party meeting held prior to the main plenary session at the National Assembly that afternoon. People Power Party members warmly greeted Kim Taegyu, Yoo Uidong, Yoon Yonggeun, and Lee Jinsuk with handshakes as they entered the meeting hall. Song Eonseok, the party's floor leader, also presented them with bouquets of flowers.
Floor leader Song stated, "The election of the four lawmakers reflects the public sentiment that President Lee Jaemyung and the Democratic Party must be kept in check." He added, "If all 110 lawmakers work together in parliamentary activities, we will be able to win the hearts of the people. We will be able to put the brakes on this administration's arrogance and self-righteousness, and there will be an opportunity for us in the next general elections. I remain hopeful."
Assemblyman Yoo, who has now secured his fourth term, remarked, "The June 3 by-election clearly reflected the will of the people and the voters' intentions were precise. The results we received show the current state of our party." He continued, "While I may be lacking, I will do my utmost to discuss with my colleagues and help the party renew itself as we decide where to go from here."
Assemblyman Yoon said, "I believe that the conservative camp must rise anew and lead once again. I am willing to give my all to make that happen." Assemblywoman Lee also commented, "I will learn as much as possible from my fellow lawmakers and do my part in building a strong party and gaining public support."
Assemblyman Kim told reporters, "Isn’t the reason I entered politics to be of benefit to the people? I will dedicate myself to politics that truly serve the people." Regarding the outcome of the elections, he said, "If I were to give my personal opinion on the overall results, I would say it was a victory on points."
In the by-elections held on June 3, Kim Taegyu was elected in Namgap, Ulsan; Yoo Uidong in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province; Yoon Yonggeun in Gongju, Buyeo, and Cheongyang, Chungcheongnam-do; and Lee Jinsuk in Dalseong, Daegu, each defeating their respective opponents to win their seats.

Meanwhile, at the party meeting on June 5, floor leader Song announced his intention to resign from his position. Kwak Gyutaek, the party's chief spokesperson, told reporters following the meeting, "We will begin the floor leader election management committee meeting today," adding, "Once the meeting is held, the (election) timeline will be determined."
