Jeong Cheongrae: "White Paper to Be Published by Local Election Evaluation Committee... Co-chaired by One Internal and One External Member"
"Going Forward, a One Voice Approach for the Success of the Lee Jaemyung Administration"
Jeong Cheongrae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced on June 5 that a committee will be established to evaluate the June 3 local elections and the National Assembly by-elections, and that a white paper will be published. While the Democratic Party succeeded in shifting local power by winning 12 out of 16 metropolitan mayoral and gubernatorial races in this local election, the party also experienced defeat in the Seoul mayoral race, often called the highlight of local elections, and failed to retain its seats in the by-elections. As a result, responsibility for these losses has also been raised regarding Jeong's leadership.
At the party meeting held that day, Jeong stated, "While each individual can conduct their own assessment of this election, it is more appropriate to do so systematically," explaining the decision.

Therefore, we will form the evaluation committee with one chairperson from outside the party and one from inside, and organize the rest of the committee members accordingly."
He continued, "With a heart as vast as the sea, let us acknowledge our differences and unite as one, so that, just as we have done so far, we continue to work together as one team and one voice for the success of the Lee Jaemyung administration. Beyond simply evaluating numbers, let us keep both the applause and the criticism from the public and party members close to our hearts, and move forward with unity for the President's success."
On this day, Jeong also congratulated those elected in the by-elections who attended the meeting as new National Assembly members. He expressed, "As party leader, I feel a deep sense of responsibility and extend my sincere consolation to those who were defeated in the elections."
Han Byungdo, floor leader of the Democratic Party, stated that following the election of the National Assembly steering committee on that day, the party will move swiftly to organize the standing committees. Han said, "It usually takes 48 to 54 days to form the committees. This constitutional vacuum has become almost customary. Such wrongful practices must end. When have the people ever asked us to delay negotiations by two months?"
