Kwanghyun Lim, Commissioner of the National Tax Service, emphasized on the 4th, "The Tax Arrears Management Team is a core project that delivers fivefold benefits, including the realization of tax justice, securing fiscal resources, creating productive jobs, and identifying welfare recipients."
Commissioner Lim made these remarks while visiting the Central Regional National Tax Service's Tax Arrears Management Team on the same day to review operations and encourage the field employees.

View original imageHe stated, "Despite the challenges of having the largest jurisdiction in the nation, the Central Regional Office has achieved the highest number of actual condition checks and the greatest level of tax arrears payments through the united efforts of its members," adding, "Let us demonstrate tangible results in the field so that the public can truly perceive the continued necessity of this initiative."
Since March 5 and through May 22, 2026, the National Tax Service has operated a team of 500 Tax Arrears Management Team members, who have conducted telephone and in-person verifications for 36,532 individuals. As a result, 10 billion won in tax arrears was immediately collected from 6,022 people. Additionally, 10,230 individuals pledged to pay, and among 1,049 delinquent taxpayers who have the ability to pay but intentionally evade payment, 329 were referred to a tracking investigation team.

The National Tax Service plans to expand the Tax Arrears Management Team from the current 500 members to 10,000 by October 2026, ramping up efforts to verify the actual conditions of delinquent taxpayers. First, 5,500 additional members (2,500 for national taxes and 3,000 for non-tax revenues) will be recruited by the end of June, receive job training, and begin actual condition checks in July. The remaining 4,000 members will be hired, enabling a total of 10,000 Tax Arrears Management Team members to be active starting October this year.
