Meta: "Glasses Are the Optimal Way to Use AI... Aiming to Provide Personalized AI Experiences"
Operates Based on the User's Field of View
"Glasses are the optimal way to use AI."
At a media event held at the Meta Korea office in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on June 4, Jina Kim, CEO of Meta Korea, stated, "In terms of being able to utilize AI while remaining connected to the world, I believe glasses are the optimal form factor." She added, "Our goal is to provide a personalized 'superintelligence' AI experience for everyone."
On May 25, Meta launched the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and the Oakley Meta Vanguard in South Korea, both created in partnership with global eyewear company EssilorLuxottica. These products do not have displays, but instead integrate AI with cameras and speakers.
Wearing the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta glasses, which resemble thick-rimmed glasses, a command was given to activate Meta AI. When prompted to take a photo, the LED on the right side camera of the glasses flashed. Without pressing the capture button on the temple, the glasses could take a 12-megapixel video that reflected exactly what the user was seeing.
The greatest advantage of AI glasses is that they operate based on the user's field of view. Users can give real-time instructions to the AI without having to open a camera app or explain the situation. A Meta Korea representative emphasized, "This is the most ideal form factor to realize Meta's vision of 'personalized AI experiences for everyone.'"
Another benefit is that users do not need to carry separate devices such as smartphones or earphones. In active environments such as sports or concerts, users can take photos, listen to music, and use AI all through a single pair of glasses. The second-generation Ray-Ban Meta glasses are equipped with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, allowing users to capture 3K Ultra HD photos and videos.
Users can adjust the speaker volume by swiping the touchpad on the temple or play music by tapping it multiple times. The open-ear speaker on the top of the temple features adaptive volume, allowing audio to be delivered without blocking out surrounding noise or conversations.
