The two parties plan to secure next-generation robotics AI technology applicable to real-world industrial sites through joint research on robot vision and grasping technology.
On June 4, Sky Intelligence announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the AI Research Institute at Seoul National University (AIIS) to establish a joint research and cooperation framework for the advancement of robot vision and grasping technology.
This agreement focuses on securing core physical AI technologies that connect visual information recognized by robots to actual physical actions. In particular, the joint research aims to enhance robotic grasping technology—enabling the recognition of various objects, estimation of their position and orientation, and precision grasping—as well as improving stability and accuracy in real industrial environments.
Sky Intelligence utilizes digital twin technology based on NVIDIA Omniverse to create high-precision digital assets of real objects and spaces. The company also explained that it has infrastructure capable of producing large-scale industrial synthetic data, immediately usable for physical AI training, by building virtual environments that incorporate physical laws.
Based on this technological capability, the company aims to generate training data closely resembling real environments, enhance robots’ perception accuracy, and advance 'Sim-to-Real' technology, which applies simulation results to real-world environments.
To this end, Sky Intelligence plans to provide the AI Research Institute at Seoul National University with essential infrastructure for physical AI development, including high-precision 3D CAD models, datasets for training and evaluation, and data annotation.
The two parties will expand their collaboration beyond joint research to include government R&D projects. They also plan to broaden cooperation in various fields, such as talent exchange, research collaboration, and securing server resources for training and inference of large-scale AI models.
Jaecheol Lee, CEO of Sky Intelligence, stated, "In the era of physical AI, the core competitive advantage will be how precisely real-world environments are digitally replicated and connected to training data. By combining our digital twin and synthetic data technologies with the research capabilities of the AI Research Institute at Seoul National University, we aim to lead the global commercialization of robotics AI."
Jaewook Lee, Director of the AI Research Institute at Seoul National University, also commented, "This agreement is significant in that it goes beyond theoretical research and focuses on securing physical AI technologies applicable to real industrial sites. Through regular seminars and technical meetings, we will strive to deliver world-class research outcomes."
Sky Intelligence is an affiliate of SKAI, a KOSDAQ-listed company. Leveraging its digital twin and synthetic data generation technology based on NVIDIA Omniverse, Sky Intelligence has been providing AI-based 3D data and content solutions to various sectors, including the global luxury and retail industries.
Recently, the company received approval from the Korea Industrial Technology Association (KOITA) to establish a corporate research institute and is accelerating its efforts to advance industrial synthetic data and physical AI technologies. Based on its digital twin and synthetic data infrastructure, the company plans to strengthen its competitiveness in the global market and accelerate its entry into the physical AI sector.
