Held His Stronghold... People Power's Choo Kyung-ho Likely to Win Daegu Mayoral Election Over Kim Boo-kyum
In the 9th nationwide local elections held on June 3, Chu Kyungho, the People Power Party candidate, is highly likely to be elected as the Mayor of Daegu.
According to the National Election Commission as of 4 a.m. on June 4, with 88.25% of the votes counted, Chu is in first place with 53.94% of the vote, ahead of Kim Boo-kyum, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate, who has 45.03%.
Candidate Kim has conceded defeat. He stated, "I was not able to meet the expectations that the citizens of Daegu had for me. I humbly accept the results of the election," adding, "I saw the possibility of politics as a service, with competition in Daegu and efforts by both the ruling and opposition parties. I congratulate Candidate Chu on his election."
Chu said, "I deeply bow my head in gratitude to the citizens who have opened a new future for Daegu with their great choice. I also extend my deepest sympathy and thanks to Candidate Kim for competing alongside me," adding, "I will never forget the precious trust you have placed in me by entrusting me with city administration, and I will make sure to deliver results."

Chu, a native of Dalseong, Daegu, graduated from Daegu Gyesung High School and Korea University. After passing the state civil service exam, he began his career in public service, serving as Vice Minister of Economy and Finance and Minister for Government Policy Coordination (ministerial level). Since his first term in the 20th National Assembly, he has been elected for three consecutive terms. Chu also served as Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Economy and Finance, as well as floor leader of the ruling party, before running for Mayor of Daegu.
