"Already Agreed Not to Possess Nuclear Weapons," Trump Claims
Draws the Line at Deploying Ground Troops
U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed his willingness to meet directly with Iran's new leader Mojtaba Khamenei. He also claimed that Iran has already agreed not to possess nuclear weapons.
In an interview with the New York Post podcast "Pod Force One," released on June 3, President Trump was asked about the possibility of talks with Khamenei and said, "I would like to meet him."
He added, "I want to meet everyone," and stated, "Depending on how everything goes, I will probably meet him at some point."
President Trump believes that Khamenei is involved in Iran's decision-making process for negotiations. He said Khamenei is "definitely involved" in the negotiation process and added, "I think the Iranian people have a lot of respect for him."
Regarding Khamenei's health, President Trump said, "I've heard that he's not doing very well." However, he explained that Khamenei is exercising approval authority during the negotiations.
On the Iranian nuclear issue, President Trump said, "They have already agreed not to have nuclear weapons."
The United States and Iran are continuing negotiations over nuclear issues, sanctions relief, and the cessation of military clashes in the region. Recently, tensions have escalated as Iran launched attacks targeting U.S.-related facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain, and the United States responded by attacking military facilities and oil tankers in Iran.
