"Please Check If I Voted Correctly": Man in His 40s Brings Out Ballot, Multiple Disturbances Reported at Polling Stations
88 Election-Related Emergency Calls Reported Within Three Hours of Voting
On the morning of June 3, as the main voting for the 9th nationwide local elections began, polling stations across the country saw a series of election-related reports, including disturbances and attempts to interfere with the voting process.
According to the National Police Agency, between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. on June 3, a total of 88 election-related 112 emergency calls were reported nationwide.
By type, acts of interference and disturbances at polling stations accounted for the most with 14 cases, while there were 3 reports related to traffic inconveniences. No assault cases were reported.
In addition, there were 71 other reports, including false or mistaken reports.
At a polling station in Sejong City, a man in his 40s attempted to show his completed ballot to people nearby without placing it in the ballot box and was stopped by staff.
It was reported that the man said at the scene, "Didn't the president do this as well?" and "Please check whether I marked my ballot correctly," expressing such intentions.
A disturbance also occurred at a polling station in Dongdaemun District, Seoul.
A man in his 60s tried to leave the polling place with his completed ballot without putting it in the ballot box and was stopped by election management staff. He then reportedly raised his voice and caused a commotion.
Police are currently verifying the facts based on the reports they have received and plan to review whether there have been violations of the Public Official Election Act or other related laws.
