Trump Declares Ceasefire, but Israel-Hezbollah Clashes Continue

Netanyahu: "Told Trump That Strikes on Targets Will Follow If Attacks Do Not Cease"

U.S. President Donald Trump declared that he had brokered a ceasefire between Israel and the Iranian-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, but armed clashes continued between the two sides.

According to Lebanon's state-run National News Agency (NNA) on the 2nd (local time), Israeli airstrikes were carried out the previous night on several villages in southern Lebanon, including Marwaniyeh, Siddiqin, Yater, and Mansouri.

On the morning of the same day, Israel conducted an airstrike on a vehicle in the southern town of Toul, causing a fire.

The Israeli military has not commented on the airstrikes in southern Lebanon that have continued since the previous night.

However, the Israeli military stated that in the early morning hours, Hezbollah fired two rockets toward Safed in northern Israel, triggering alarms, and that the air defense system intercepted the projectiles.

The Israeli military further explained that a Hezbollah drone crashed into a military base in Western Galilee, but there were no casualties.

Additionally, in the morning, an object suspected to be a Hezbollah drone appeared in Israel's operational area in southern Lebanon, setting off alarms in northern Israel as well.

President Trump wrote on social media the previous day that he had spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and representatives of Hezbollah, and that the two sides agreed to refrain from attacking each other going forward.

Subsequently, the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon announced that Hezbollah had agreed to accept the U.S. proposal for a “mutual halt to attacks.”

However, Prime Minister Netanyahu stated in a press release, “Tonight, I told President Trump that if Hezbollah does not stop its attacks on our cities and citizens, Israel will conduct airstrikes on terror targets in Beirut.”
