Yoo Uidong: "I Won't Give Up Until the End... If Difficult, Unification Through the Will of the People"
Again Urging Hwang Kyoan to Pursue Unification
"A Crucial Signal for the Rebuilding of the Conservative Movement"
Yoo Eui-dong, the People Power Party candidate running in the by-election for the National Assembly seat representing Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, appealed to voters on June 2, saying, "There are only nine hours left in the official campaign, but I will not give up on (candidate unification) until the very last moment." He added, "However, if it ultimately proves difficult, I earnestly ask you to make the final choice for unification."

Yoo, who has been in talks for unification with Hwang Kyo-ahn, the candidate from the Liberty and Innovation Party also running in the constituency, urged Hwang, "Now is the time to stand shoulder to shoulder, not turn our backs on each other," and added, "If we are divided, only the Democratic Party of Korea and the Cho Kuk Innovation Party will be pleased." He called for a decisive move. To local voters, he appealed, "If unification does not materialize, please achieve it through your votes and by reflecting the public sentiment."
Although the main election is scheduled for tomorrow, Yoo reiterated that "there is still hope for unification." Regarding Hwang's conditions for unification—which included an apology for supporting the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye and a stance on alleged election fraud—Yoo responded, "I cannot help but question whether there is genuine intent for unification." He further stressed that unification is "a means to prevent runaway government and to block the worst candidates who have declared their candidacy in Pyeongtaek," and once again called on Hwang to make a decision.

As for why he refuses to give up on the attempt at unification, he explained, "Demonstrating that the conservative bloc can unite as one and overwhelmingly stop the runaway of the Lee Jaemyung administration is the most effective way to keep the government in check." He continued, "Because an agreement on unification would serve as a highly important signal for the rebuilding of the conservative bloc, I will not stop my efforts until the very last moment."
