He added, "Contrary to the initial reports of a 'simple murder' charge, the supplementary investigation by the Gwangju District Prosecutors’ Office revealed charges of 'rape and murder under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.'
He further explained, "Jang has also been indicted on charges of sexual violence and stalking against a female colleague." He continued, "We will do our utmost to provide psychological support for the bereaved family to help them quickly return to their daily lives, as well as to establish measures for crime prevention and recurrence prevention."
Earlier, the 3rd Criminal Division of the Gwangju District Prosecutors’ Office (headed by Chief Prosecutor Kim Jinhee) indicted Jang on June 2 on charges including rape and murder under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.
Jang is accused of murdering a second-year high school girl at around 12:10 a.m. on May 5 on a walkway in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju.
