A Massive Turnout of Fans, Residents, and Tourists
More than 1,000 fans gathered in one place to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Marilyn Monroe, the actress who represented Hollywood in the 20th century.
On June 2, Yonhap News, citing foreign media outlets such as The New York Times (NYT), reported that on May 30, 1,037 participants dressed as Marilyn Monroe gathered in downtown Palm Springs, California, USA, setting a Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Marilyn Monroe.
The participants were diverse as well. Residents of Palm Springs, tourists, LGBTQ individuals, teenagers, and senior citizens all took part, and some fans reportedly drove long distances or flew to the event. Photo by AFP Yonhap News.

Some even accessorized with cat-eye sunglasses and martini glasses to recreate her signature style. The scene in which Monroe’s white dress billows up from a subway vent is regarded as one of the most famous moments in Hollywood film history.
The event was held around the large sculpture "Forever Marilyn" near the Palm Springs Art Museum. This statue, approximately 8 meters in height, depicts Monroe's iconic pose holding down her wind-blown white dress with both hands. Organizers had initially expected around 500 participants, but more than twice that number—1,037 people—showed up in person. The previous record was 254 participants, set at an event held at Brighton Beach in Adelaide, Australia, in 2020.
