Kim Dongyun Presides Over Executive Meeting on June 2: "Prepare for the 9th Administration Based on Achievements So Far"
Gyeonggi Province Governor Dongyun Kim has called for thorough preparations for a new leap forward in the upcoming 9th popularly elected administration, building on the achievements accumulated over the four years of the 8th term. He also urged for flawless implementation of public welfare and safety measures to protect the lives of residents.
Presiding over the key executive meeting of the provincial government at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex in Suwon on June 2, Governor Kim stated, "The past four years of the 8th popularly elected administration have been a rewarding and invaluable period during which we have proven together that 'If Gyeonggi Province changes, Korea changes.'"
Expressing his deep gratitude for the dedication of public officials in his opening remarks, Governor Kim said, "With exceptional responsibility, creativity, and passion, we have transformed the lives of 14.2 million residents." He continued, "I urge our public officials to continue working together so that their capabilities can contribute to the development of Gyeonggi Province and the improvement of residents' quality of life alongside the incoming leader of the 9th administration."
He added, "Once the transition committee is in operation, please establish a robust support system so that the vision, policies, and pledges of the incoming leader can be implemented smoothly from the start of the term. I hope that the achievements of the 8th administration will become a stepping stone for the 9th, completing a smooth and beautiful handover."
At the meeting, attendees discussed the current status of emergency economic measures in response to the Middle East crisis, summer safety management plans addressing natural disasters and heat waves, and preparations for the launch of the 9th administration.
Since March 8, Gyeonggi Province has operated a dedicated task force (TF) to respond to the Middle East conflict. Regarding responses to high oil prices, the province is currently monitoring the status of textiles, delivery packaging containers, construction materials, and agricultural supplies, while exploring support measures. For construction projects commissioned by the provincial or municipal public institutions, Gyeonggi Province has requested relevant agencies to reflect price fluctuations in costs. The province has also encouraged the adjustment of contract amounts and the prioritization of interim payments.
For bus companies struggling with soaring fuel costs, the province is alleviating their financial burden through indirect financial support such as advance payment of subsidies.

As part of public welfare stabilization measures, the province is maintaining a freeze on local public utility rates to stabilize prices. It is also subsidizing the purchase of tax-free fuel for agriculture and fisheries, as well as inorganic fertilizers, through the first supplementary budget.
To manage summer safety, including natural disasters, since February, Gyeonggi Province has formed a joint public-private disaster prevention task force with cities and counties, and completed joint inspections of 54,313 facilities across eight sectors with public-private disaster safety monitors.
To prepare for heat waves, the province will operate a joint dedicated team throughout the heatwave period to manage the overall situation.
