Research Experience Program for Middle and High School Students

Gwanak-gu in Seoul is partnering with Seoul National University to run a career exploration program for teenagers.

On June 2, the district announced that it has collaborated with the Seoul National University Interdisciplinary Program in Bioengineering to launch the "Seoul National University Bio Career Exploration Program," aiming to enhance local students' understanding of the bioindustry. This initiative is designed as career education to prepare students for the rapidly expanding bioindustry, which is being accelerated by the convergence of artificial intelligence (AI) and data technologies.

The program will be held at Seoul National University’s research institute and will include sessions on understanding the bio field, career exploration and planning, and basic research experiences. The program is structured to provide students interested in life sciences with a broad experience of both research and the industry as a whole.

The program will be offered once during each school vacation period: once in the first half and once in the second half of the year. In the first half, 20 middle school students from the district will participate, and in the second half, 20 first-year high school students will take part. All participants will be selected through school recommendations. Gwanak-gu plans to strengthen youth career education by connecting the research and educational resources of Gwanak S Valley and Seoul National University.

A district official said, "We hope this will be an opportunity for teenagers to experience university-level bio research firsthand and explore potential careers in the bio field," adding, "We also plan to gradually introduce industry-academic career convergence programs in cooperation with companies located in Gwanak S Valley in the future."
