Gangdong Central Library to Offer Health Lectures in Partnership with Gangdong Sacred Heart Hospital
On June 2, the Gangdong Central Library, under the Seoul Gangdong Foundation for Arts and Culture (Chairperson Lee Soohee), announced that it will operate a health information program for local residents in partnership with Gangdong Sacred Heart Hospital.
The two organizations signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on May 28 and agreed to jointly run “Health Lectures by Life Cycle” in the first and second halves of the year. The aim is to provide highly trusted health information through collaboration between the public library and a medical institution, and to strengthen preventive health management capabilities.
The first half lectures will be held every Wednesday at 11 a.m. from June 10 to June 24 in the Multipurpose Hall on the second basement floor of the library. The lectures are intended for 250 adults, and the medical staff from Gangdong Sacred Heart Hospital will personally give the lectures.
The lecture topics are as follows: ▲“Understanding and Managing Pediatric Scoliosis” (Professor Choi Jayoon, Department of Rehabilitation Medicine – June 10), ▲“Urological Health in Middle-Aged Women: Cystitis and Urinary Incontinence” (Professor Han Jiyeon, Department of Urology – June 17), and ▲“Ophthalmic Diseases in the Elderly: Cataracts and Glaucoma” (Professor Na Kyungik, Department of Ophthalmology – June 24).
With this program, the library plans to expand its role beyond a reading-focused space to become a regional public service platform that encompasses health and cultural information.
Kim Youngho, CEO of Gangdong Foundation for Arts and Culture, said, “We hope this program will provide local residents with the opportunity to meet medical professionals at a nearby library and obtain health information needed in daily life. We will continue to work toward making the library an open platform that provides essential public services for residents through collaboration with community organizations.”
