Expanding Development Cooperation through K-Culture... Culture Ministry to Hold ODA Seminar in the Cultural Sector
Sharing Trends and Best Practices in International Development Cooperation in the Cultural Sector
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that, together with the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange, it will hold the "2026 1st Seminar on International Development Cooperation in the Culture Sector" under the theme "Culture: Seeking a New Path for Official Development Assistance (ODA)" at Space Aid in Jung-gu, Seoul, at 2:00 p.m. on June 2.
According to the amendment to the Act on the Promotion of International Cultural Exchange, which was promulgated last month, the ministry has newly established the obligation of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism to promote international development cooperation in the cultural sector. In addition, the Committee for International Development Cooperation, in its "4th Basic Plan for International Development Cooperation (2026–2030)" announced in February, included culture for the first time as a key focus area for international development cooperation.
Reflecting these changes in the policy environment, this seminar will bring together practitioners and experts in the fields of culture and arts, content, tourism, and sports to share trends and best practices in international development cooperation in the cultural sector, and discuss the way forward.
In Session 1, participants will discuss trends and directions for international development cooperation in the culture sector, share recent international development cooperation cases such as the construction of the Ulaanbaatar City Library, and introduce cases in which demand for international development cooperation was discovered through active communication with partner countries. In addition, the session will provide an explanation of the procedures for international development cooperation in the cultural sector.
In Session 2, experts and representatives from partner countries will review proposed development cooperation projects in the cultural sector and provide consultations to ensure that projects can be carried out efficiently and effectively.
Based on the discussions at this seminar, the ministry plans to continuously develop international development cooperation projects in the cultural sector that meet the needs of partner countries.

Kim Hyunjun, Director General for International Cultural Policy at the Ministry, stated, "This seminar is a meaningful opportunity to discuss ways to actively utilize our cultural experiences and capabilities in international development cooperation at a time when global interest in K-content and Korean culture is surging," adding, "The Ministry will support the sustainable development of partner countries and pursue mutual prosperity with the international community through international development cooperation leveraging K-culture."
