Samsung Launches 'Life Science Fund III' to Invest in Bio Venture Companies

On June 1, Samsung announced that it is launching the ‘Samsung Life Science Fund III’ to invest in global bio venture companies.

View original imageThe Samsung Life Science Fund is a bio-specialized venture investment fund jointly funded by Samsung C&T, Samsung Biologics, and Samsung Bioepis, and managed by Samsung Venture Investment. Its purpose is to discover global bio companies with innovative technologies and to expand opportunities for strategic cooperation.
The size of this third fund is 200 billion won. Samsung C&T and Samsung Biologics will each contribute 79.2 billion won, while Samsung Bioepis will contribute 39.6 billion won and Samsung Venture Investment will contribute 2 billion won.
Previously, Samsung established the first fund with 170 billion won and the second fund with 72 billion won. With the addition of this third fund, the cumulative managed capital will increase to 442 billion won.
The company plans to strengthen investments in next-generation bio technology through this fund and expand global networks and business cooperation opportunities based on collaboration with its portfolio companies.

To date, the Samsung Life Science Fund has invested in global bio companies and venture capital firms such as AIMEDBIO, Flagship Pioneering, Latus Bio, Generate Biomedicines, C2N Diagnostics, Arbor Biotechnologies, Frontline BioPharma, and Cartography Biosciences.
